Performance Choir

Mrs. Heather Cooper, Principal Conductor

PERFORMANCE CHOIR is a nationally recognized treble ensemble, consisting of singers in middle school and high school. As the flagship ensemble of the Children's Choir Program, this choir is built on the solid foundation of musical skills and vocal training that are the cornerstone of Summit Choral Society.

The Choir has received notable invitations to perform for professional music organizations, including the National Conference of the Organization of American Kodaly Educators (OAKE) in 2019 and the Ohio Choral Directors Association (OCDA) annual conference in 2017. Symphonic appearances include Carmina Burana with the Canton Symphony Orchestra, and Midsummer Night’s Dream and Elijah with the Akron Symphony Orchestra. The choir stays engaged with the greater Akron area through a variety of community events each season, as well as concerts sponsored by Summit Choral Society.

Performance Choir has a strong history of going on tour, seeking out destinations that are both educational and musically fulfilling. Recent tours have taken them to Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Grand Ole Opry.

"Summit Choral Society has made me who I am as a singer today. It has improved my confidence greatly, and I would not have had the conviction to try out for school plays and solos without it. I have made so many friends and figured out that my true passion in life is music. Summit Choral is what made me decide to pursue a career in music education. This program has made me who I am in so many ways, and I can’t imagine where I would be without it. When I become a choir director, I hope I am half as good as the choir directors I have had in Summit Choral."
