It’s the day we have all been waiting and practicing for – IT’S CARNEGIE HALL DAY! But first, it’s time to walk to streets of NYC! Half of the group braved the crowds of Times Square to shop at Disney, BT21, The Hershey Store and M&M World! While the other half toured St. Patrick's Cathedral, sang in The American Girl Store, shopped 5th ave while buying pizza by the slice and ended up in Rockefeller Center. To the Top of the Rock! It’s every singers dream to get to Carnegie Hall. – Megan Hilty
It’s time for the Summit Choral Society Performance Choir to live their dream! (Unfortunately, photography was only allowed for a portion of the dress rehearsal. We are looking forward to the premier choir photo, taken by Carnegie Hall, to share with all of you!) But here are a few National Youth Choir sound check photos on the Carnegie Hall stage! It’s our first FULL DAY in the city and what did the kids do? Rehearse from 9AM – 12PM & 2PM – 5PM Remember, Practice. Practice. Practice! (Literally!) However, our photographer able to explore the city and experience the craziness of Times Square!! Below are some of her favorite shots! Let me tell you, if you walk the streets of NYC carrying multiple shopping bags, it wears you out! SCS planned had another dinner planned and ordered sandwiches from Stage Star Deli! Yumm! This gave everyone plenty of time to get dressed to the nines for The Metropolitan Opera featuring Placido Domingo in Luisa Miller. Off to the Opera! Glamour Shots back at The Hilton Midtown!
You don't realize how early 4:30AM is until you have to be somewhere BY 4:30AM! That's right, our bus loaded at 4:30AM and we were pulling out of the Summit Choral Society downtown parking lot by 4:58AM...a whole (2) minutes EARLY! Wooo Whoo! GO SCS! It was a long 9 hour bus ride to NYC, but we made it!!! Now, the #1 question - How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice. Practice. Practice! And by sitting in Traffic. Traffic. Traffic! Welcome to New York! We arrived at our home away from home for the next few days, The Hilton Midtown, the largest hotel this side of the Mississippi! While the Performance Choir had their first (2) hour rehearsal, the SCS staff and chaperones worked their magic.
By the time the kids were back in their rooms, their luggage, a large New York City style pizza, salad and bread sticks were waiting for them! Now, off to Broadway! (& we only got lost once!) |
