Youth Touring Choir

The SCC Touring Choir -- under the direction of Mrs. Arlene Jacobs - has continued to serve as performance ambassadors for the Choral Society. In addition to appearances on all concerts featuring the Summit Children’s Choirs, they perform regularly with the Masterworks Chorale and orchestra on Summit Choral Society subscription concerts. In past years they have been involved in performances of such large scale works as J. S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzes, Faure’s Requiem, Mathias’ Jonah, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Monteverdi’s 1610 Vespers, Rutter’s Requiem, and Verdi’s Four Sacred Pieces. They have also been prominently featured in the Choral Society’s two major commissioned works – the world premieres of: Jerre Tanner’s ‘Aumakua -Living Ancestors’ (2001) and David Howard Pettit’s An Ohio Symphony (2003).

They have been invited to sing for state, regional and national choral conventions over the past decade; have given full concerts on college campuses and in churches of many different denominations in the region; have provided music for Martin Luther King Day Ceremonies; for the Akron Jewish Community’s observance of Yom Hashoah; and also appeared with the Masterworks Chorale on the City of Akron’s 9/11 Commemoration Service in 2003. They have appeared as part of international music festivals in England, Hawaii, Italy and China. Last summer found them on a tour of New England which included concerts in New Hampshire, Connecticut, Vermont, Massachusetts, and on the campus of Harvard University.

Under the guiding hand of Mrs. Jacobs, they have grown steadily into an artistic ensemble which is recognized not only in the Akron area, but throughout Ohio and beyond. Because of the quality and artistry they bring to their singing,
