2016-2017 Season Extension Choirs
Emily Garlock, Director
Singers in the Broadway Choir will learn the vocal techniques of this American standard style of music. This choir provides singers the opportunity to sing some of their favorite Broadway songs while learning how to appropriately vocalize through practice and performance opportunities in this valuable genre of music. Solo performance opportunities in this style may arise.
Global Music Choir
Heather Cooper, Director
Through the study of music on a global scale singers in this choir will learn about different vocal techniques throughout the world. The exposure to different world cultures and their native dialect provide singers the exposure, practice and technique to produce sounds that do not usually accompany the English language. Due to the heavy use of instruments in some of the cultures studied, instrument playing by singers in the choir may be expected from time to time.
The instruction, music selections, and opportunities for singers in this class are designed to broaden the vocal scope of individual singers. These singers have a solid foundation of choral singing techniques and have already received choral vocal training through the CCP. The vocal techniques fostered in Madrigal Choir build on each singer’s previous knowledge and experience in vocal techniques in choir while introducing new techniques and the singing style that contributes to making this one of the timeless choral art styles.
Alexander Looney, Director
This choir serves to foster the development of the changing male voice. They may perform alone or in collaboration on select pieces with the other Extension Choirs at the director’s discretion.
SCS's unique curriculum and performance model provides singers the opportunity to study, rehearse, explore, and perform in various styles of music. Extension choir offerings change from year to year in order to expose singers to a wide variety of musical genres and choral/vocal styles. Classes are offered by semester and singers are placed by their indicated preferences and in order of registration date. Choral Extension Choirs enhance a singer’s overall understanding of their vocal abilities by exposing them to a variety of techniques and styles that vary in complexity. These classes further enhance their individual understanding of the world of music in many forms. Singers are encouraged to explore different styles and change their extension selection at the beginning of each semester. Singers in Advanced Choir and in Musicianship III or higher may choose to sing in an Extension Choir. *Additional fees may apply.
